Pediatric Hemangioma Involution

These hemangioma photographs were gathered from the slide collection of Dr. Alvin H. Jacobs. Dr. Jacobs' pioneering work in Pediatric Dermatology makes these slides monumental for reliable documentation of hemangioma involution.

When Dr. Jacobs' slide collection was donated to Stanford University's Department of Dermatology, it was not accompanied by written records of these patients. We have attempted to remove personal identifiers from these pictures, for they were taken during a time when oral consent was all that was required for public use.

Dr. Jacobs took these photographs between 1950 and 1983. During that time, observation was the general therapy for hemangiomas. Occasionally, hemangiomas were removed surgically. In these pictures, the rare instances of surgical removal are noted. This collection of photographs can be considered documentation of the natural course of hemangiomas in children.

Note that the following images are a small sampling of images contained in the Stanford Dermatology Collection.
